The MEL Group Wins Significant MOD Contract

The MEL Group – the Suffolk-based engineering solution provider – has been awarded a new contract from the Ministry of Defence as part of the Maritime Equipment Transformation (MET) Programme.

The contract, covering internal communications equipment will include but not be limited to, the provision of headsets, handsets, microphones, loudspeakers and associated equipment to the RN. The new business will secure jobs within the group for a 7 year period. In-service support will be provided to both Legacy and, as appropriate future Warships and Submarines.

This support includes the manufacture and repair of complete units, as well as the provision of spares, technical assistance and post design service tasks to solve obsolescence and allow for technical upgrades and modifications.

The MET Programme is planning to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the equipment management role and support solutions in order to deliver improved performance and value for defence. The MEL Group includes a number of communications and electronics companies allowing the majority of the work to be completed in-house. This reduces the risk for the MOD as The MEL Group is relying mostly on internal companies rather than outsourcing.

Managing Director of The MEL Group, Gary Harvey said

We are proud to be chosen for the supply of in-service engineering support for the Royal Navy.

Our knowledge, experience and expertise has been built up over the years by working closely with the Armed Forces, including the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force. This has led to The MEL Group being recognised by the MOD, NATO and other operations as a modern and integrated total engineering solution provider
