  • JOB PURPOSE:

    The role is to provide a centre of excellence for product costing including material, process, tooling and labour costs associated with the sourcing and supply of mechanical / electrical components and systems throughout The Group. 

  •  

  • Working alongside the Project team and Production department, the role will provide co-ordination of multiple projects simultaneously to ensure that the correct suppliers, price, delivery timescales and quality standards are achieved.

  •  

  • PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Receive multiple job packs of engineering drawings and procure all parts associated with the bill of materials in a timely manner to meet production delivery targets.
    • Complete pricing on tenders including sourcing suppliers and pricing through the NSN and internet.
    • Liaise effectively with Project engineers on all relevant aspects of each project, sourcing parts and components for prototype builds.
    • Create bill of materials where none exists.
    • Source from original manufacturers rather than distributors to achieve the right price without compromising quality standards.
    • Liaise effectively with suppliers throughout each project, maintaining the MEL reputation for commitment and professionalism.
    • Conduct vendor appraisals where necessary.
    • Avoid and control issues of obsolescence in projects throughout the Group.
    • Provide clear structure of discounts on all accounts with suppliers.
    • Manage the sourcing and procurement of everyday consumables for a very busy production department.
    • Plan, organise and accurately monitor workload to meet strict deadlines.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

    • Experienced mechanical engineer with an indentured apprenticeship, or the equivalent skills and experience.
    • Ability to read engineering drawings.
    • At least 5 years previous purchasing experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
    • Familiar with product design and manufacturing processes, material specifications (including raw materials) and costing methodologies.
    • Strong negotiation skills.

JOB PURPOSE:


The role will encompass the requirements of Environmental, Information Security, Business Continuity and Occupational Health and Safety compliance, along with the many other stringent Aerospace (AS9100) and ISO 9001 registrations which are already embedded within the Group. 

 

You will be responsible for assisting the MEL Group with both regulatory compliance and regulatory development within these areas of expertise and report into the Head of Group Quality.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to perform value adding compliance audits within all MEL Group Companies
  • Willing to travel within the Group to carry out necessary duties in compliance with role

 

  • Ability to identify and recommend process improvements where weaknesses are evident
  • Background knowledge and experience of implementation of ISO 14001, OHAS 18001, ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 systems, in addition to the base principles of ISO 9001 and AS 9100

 

  • An understanding of TS 16949 would be advantageous although not compulsory
  • Proven history of investigating failures and implementing corrective actions

Working within small air conditioned workshop, carrying out development and small quantity manufacture of aircraft ground equipment within the MEL Group alongside skilled fabricators and machinists.

 

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manufacture of aircraft ground equipment and commercial work handling equipment in mild, stainless steel and aluminium up to 3mm (10swg)
  • Welding in mig and tig
  • Full knowledge of all workshop equipment
  • Liaise with machine shop and fabrication staff to ensure products produced are to the specifications required
  • Resolve queries and problems to best of ability before escalating up to next level. Ensure minimum occurrence of errors and provide workable solutions.

  • Able to set, programme and operate CNC milling machines with 4th axis
  • Knowledge / experience of CADCAM packages ideally Once CNC.

  • Releasing of Master Record Cards (MRC) to produce final certificates for new build and repair and overhaul
  • Inputting of all orders onto PC for both new build and repair overhaul customers
  • Ensuring correct data is inputted and detailed on company certificates
  • Processing customer quotation approvals within the department
  • Producing customer quotations via internal computer software
  • Filing and scanning of faxes, orders, certificates and associated company information
  • Keep in a clean, tidy and organised system, all paperwork associated with current and past work packs
